Dr. John Steytler
Chief Executive of the Development Bank of Namibia
Dr. John Steytler is the Chief Executive of the Development Bank of Namibia (DBN) since September 2024. He is a seasoned economist, passionate about shaping financial landscapes and fostering equitable economic growth.
Throughout his career, Dr. Steytler has held pivotal roles, including as Economic Advisor to President H.E. Dr. Hage G. Geingob and as Namibia’s first Statistician-General at the Namibia Statistics Agency (NSA), where he was instrumental in establishing the country’s National Statistics Office. His journey is marked by a dedication to leveraging his expertise to make a positive impact on Namibia’s economy and people.
Dr. Steytler’s experience spans several prominent roles:
• Former Chief Economist at the Bank of Namibia
• Former Senior Economist at the International Monetary Fund (IMF)
He brings a deep understanding of finance and economics, with expertise in analyzing complex economic theories, monitoring market trends, advising on fiscal policies, and shaping strategic economic decisions. As CEO of DBN, Dr. Steytler remains committed to driving growth, stability, and sustainable, inclusive development in Namibia.

• International Executive Development Programme (WITS)
• PhD in Economics
• Master’s Degree in Financial Economics
• Master’s Degree in Cooperative Economics
• B.A. in History, Psychology & Sociology
