To sustain its commitment to addressing climate change challenges and achieving the Paris Agreement, AADFI set up a Working Group on Climate Change, launched on November 9, 2023. The need for AADFI members to be involved in providing solutions to address climate challenges made it imperative for the Association to be strategically engaged. Consequently, the Working Group would lead the AADFI’s agenda on climate change and generate ideas and actions that will enable the member DFIs to contribute effectively to achieving the objectives of the Paris Agreement.
The Working Group has been very active in implementing its work plan since the beginning of 2024. The group has held a series of meetings and engaged with the GCF to learn their partnership modalities. The group also steered the Association’s Annual Workshop on May 27, 2024, at the KICC, Nairobi, Kenya, on the theme “A practical road map for African DFIs in accessing green finance.” The Working Group’s most recent gathering in Nairobi, Kenya, on May 26, 2024, further strengthened its commitment to supporting members in their climate finance journey and the need for a unified approach to green fund mobilization.
The working group has set actions to conduct gap analysis, map member institutions’ readiness, strengthen engagement with climate finance, and support entities for better engagement by African DFIs in the green fund arena. Through these efforts, the Working Group demonstrates the power of collective action in addressing climate change challenges and contributing to net-zero emissions. The Working Group will remain committed to its objectives. For more information on the AADFI and its activities, visit www.adfi-ci.org.
