Abidjan, June 10, 2024 – The Association of African Development Finance Institutions (AADFI) unveiled on May 28, 2024, a new digital Learning Management System (LMS) to advance learning and professional capacity development of professionals in member institutions and broader stakeholders in development finance. This e-learning platform was officially launched by the Chairman of AADFI, Mr. Thabo Thamane, and Mr. Adama Mariko, Secretary-General of the Finance in Common (FiCS) Initiative and Deputy Executive Director for Mobilisation, Partnership, and Communication of the Agence Française de Développement (AFD) representing the AFD. The event was a highlight of the 50th Ordinary General Assembly of AADFI, which was held as part of the 2024 Annual General Assembly of AADFI on the sidelines of the 2024 Annual Meetings of the African Development Bank (AfDB) in Nairobi, Kenya.
The AADFI LMS is a direct response to the evolving capacity-building needs of the African DFI community, particularly in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic, which significantly shifted the paradigm towards online learning. With the LMS, AADFI demonstrates its agility in responding to changes in the delivery of its activities. Over 80% of its training is online, and its members have uninterrupted access to essential learning resources.
Supported by the Agence Française de Dévelopment (AFD), the LMS is designed to be a hub for continuous learning. It offers various courses and materials in development finance, SDGs, and Climate Change Finance that members and the DFI community can access from anywhere in the world. This initiative is part of AADFI’s strategic partnership with AFD, aimed at enhancing the skills and competencies within the DFI network.
During the launch, Mr. Thabo Thamane, AADFI Chairman, thanked AFD and Mr. Remy Rioux, CEO, for supporting this ambitious project. The AADFI LMS is a testament to the Association’s dedication to fostering a robust culture of continuous improvement and collaboration among global development finance institutions.
