AADFI Working Group on Climate Change

The AADFI Working Group on Climate Change (WGCC) held its first in-person meeting in Nairobi on May 26, 2024, during the 2024 Annual General Assembly of AADFI. This significant gathering marked a pivotal moment in the Association’s efforts to address climate change and promote sustainable development finance across Africa.

During the meeting, the WGCC reached several key resolutions aimed at enhancing the readiness of African DFIs for green funding and fostering collaboration with climate finance entities. The Group resolved to conduct a comprehensive gap analysis to map members’ readiness for green funding and engage with climate finance entities to advocate for African DFIs on the international stage. Additionally, the WGCC plans to establish a shared digital platform for real-time knowledge exchange, providing access to information and documentation on green funds and climate finance.

A survey has been initiated to gather data on members’ readiness for green funding. The results will inform targeted interventions and foster engagements with climate funding and support entities. The WGCC is also working towards leveraging platforms like FiCS and IDFC to represent African DFIs in international green funding discussions. Furthermore, the Secretariat has initiated partnership discussions with the Africa Adaptation Initiative (AAI) and the Global Center on Adaptation (GCA).

2026 AADFI Annual General Assembly

The Association of African Development Finance Institutions (AADFI) is pleased to announce that its 2026 Annual General Assembly will take place from May 24 to 29, 2026, in Brazzaville, Republic of Congo, on the sidelines of the African Development Bank (AfDB) Annual Meetings.

The Annual General Assembly will be held on the theme “Augmenting Sovereign Finance in Africa: DFIs Unlocking Growth and Resilience through NAFA,” with a focus on the transformative role of African Development Finance Institutions (DFIs) in strengthening Africa’s financial sovereignty. The discussions will align with the AfDB-led New African Financial Architecture (NAFA), a system-level framework designed to mobilize long-term investment, reduce Africa’s cost of capital, and reinforce resilience through coordinated financial systems and deeper domestic capital markets.

The Annual General Assembly will convene leaders of African DFIs, government officials, regional institutions, and development partners to further explore how African DFIs can catalyze local investment, de-risk strategic projects, and strengthen economic autonomy to build resilience against global shocks and bridge the continent’s infrastructure funding gap.

Further details will be shared in the coming weeks.
