Strategic Forum for
Risk Management Professionals of African DFIs

Overview

African Development Finance Institutions (DFIs) operate in an increasingly complex environment shaped by macroeconomic volatility, climate-related shocks, geopolitical tensions, debt-sustainability pressures, digital disruption, cybersecurity threats, and evolving regulatory expectations. Amid these conditions, DFIs are expected to mobilize capital and fund infrastructure at scale, including projects in MSMEs, agriculture, energy, and climate.

These developments have significant implications for risks: credit, market, liquidity, operational, environmental, social, governance, and reputational risks, in addition to credit concentration, FX volatility, climate risk, and cyber risk.

Risk management is central to the sustainability, credibility, and development impact of DFIs. Although African DFIs face common challenges, their institutional capacities, regulatory environments, portfolio structures, governance models, and digital maturity levels vary widely.

The 2026 Forum of Risk Management professionals will help bridge these gaps by enabling peer learning, sharing tools and methodologies, and collaborating on emerging risk issues.
The delegates will also address the growing need for risk functions to move beyond compliance toward value creation, strategic decision support, responsible innovation, and institutional resilience. The delegates will also have an opportunity to examine how risk management can be better integrated into strategy execution, capital allocation, project appraisal, portfolio monitoring, sustainability reporting, and digital transformation initiatives.
